Check out a day in the life of a park ranger, get clued up about environmental issues in Asia and see amazing conservation feats – all from the comfort of your living room, too easy!
The good people at TVNZ 6 have scheduled an awesome line up of conservation-related programming during Conservation Week next week. You can tune in to TVNZ 6 from 6pm to 10:30pm every night to check it out.
They’re showing Park Rangers, a series that follows the dramas and triumphs DOC’s rangers face as they go about their daily work. I have to admit I never fully appreciated the dedication it takes for our rangers to look after NZ’s natural places until I saw this series.
They’re also showing Earth Factor Asia. It sounds quite interesting, it’s a series that looks at the massive challenges and opportunities created by environmental issues in Asia.

Whatever you have planned for Conservation Week don’t miss our half hour episode of Meet the Locals. TVNZ 6’s production crew and Nic Vallance filmed the episode especially for Conservation Week and it’s definitely worth watching!
The episode showcases the fantastic kākāpō breeding season from earlier this year. The Meet the Locals team got to be part of the crew to return some of the captive-reared kākāpō chicks to the wild on Whenua Hou / Codfish Island.
The team also joined the annual mustering event to control the Kaimanawa wild horse population in Tongariro. They took a helicopter ride with the musterers to give viewers a birds eye view of the event.
In the last part of the episode the team spends the night on Tiritiri Matangi Island with kids from Mangere Central Primary School. They lean how to radio-track kiwi, listen for kokako calls, find giant weta and top up the hihi sugar water feeders – what a cool idea for a school camp!
The half hour episode will play on TVNZ 6 for the first time this Sunday 13 September at 6:30pm. It will also play a few times throughout the week so check your programme guide – you have plenty of chances to see it. But if you’re busy getting involved in other Conservation Week events don’t worry because you’ll be able to watch the episode online at tvnz.co.nz/meetthelocals after it plays on TVNZ 6.
Happy watching!

If you can’t find what you’re looking for on the website you can email us at blog@doc.govt.nz. If you’d like to, you can take a photo of your poster and upload it to our Get involved in conservation Flickr photo gallery, we’d love to see what you’ve done.
Hi Holley, we’d be very happy to help you – perhaps you could ask us some specific questions on conservation week and that will help us narrow it down for you. have you had a good look at our http://www.conservationweek.org.nz website? There’s heaps of great info on there! Best regards, Nic
