Photo of the week: Weed busting on Maud Island

Department of Conservation —  02/09/2015

Volunteers get stuck in and remove weeds like old man’s beard (Clematis vitalba) in today’s photo of the week from Maud Island (Te Hoiere) in the Marlborough Sounds.

Weeding on Maud Island (Te Hoiere).

All around the country volunteers are rolling up their sleeves and working with DOC to help remove invasive weeds that are impacting on our native plants.

Last week the Minister of Conservation announced that more than $1.2 million of Community Conservation Partnerships Funding will be going towards weed eradication this year as part of the War on Weeds.

DOC has also identified 12 problem weeds, called the Dirty Dozen, that you and your community can help us to bring under control.

Find out more about the upcoming War on Weeds work on the DOC website.
