Photo of the week: Mountain biking on the Heaphy Track

Department of Conservation —  26/04/2017

The Heaphy Track is located in the Kahurangi National Park in the Nelson/Tasman area.

Travel through expansive tussock downs, lush forests and nīkau palms to the roaring seas of the West Coast.

Gouland Downs, Heaphy Track.

There are many activities to do along the way; look and listen out for great spotted kiwi/roroa around Gouland Downs, try and spy nocturnal carnivorous land snail and lastly get on your bike!

The Heaphy Track mountain biking season is being extended by two months in spring to run from 1 May to 30 November.

Lucky enough to bike this a couple of years ago – helicoptered to Golden Bay side and biked back to West Coast. An amazing adventure with great company, great scenery and great huts. So lucky to have access to this beautiful part of country.
