Give a gift that counts this Christmas

Department of Conservation —  07/11/2018

Need inspiration for a meaningful gift idea this Christmas? Link it to your conservation values and gift a native tree. Keep the shovel and garden gloves in the shed – Trees That Count have made it as easy as a few clicks on their website ( for $10 per tree. Whether you gift tree(s) as a whole present or add tree(s) to a collective larger gift package – every tree counts!

The trees will be planted as a part of community-based projects under your giftee’s name – a gift to last a lifetime. Your giftee will receive a beautiful and customisable e-card so that you can acknowledge them and their special tree. It’s never too early to gift – you can select for your giftee to receive their gift at a later date – so that you are not rushing when the time draws near.

Mt Maungatautari have a volunteer-run nursery. View their tree count (and that of others) at

Who will you gift to?

Trees That Count do not mind. You can gift your family, friends and colleagues. You can even suggest to your connections for their businesses to gift trees to customers, as a great way to demonstrate their company values.

What do Trees That Count do?

Many people want to contribute to conservation efforts such as planting native trees, but don’t have the land or time to do so. This is where Trees That Count come in handy – they connect native tree planters to funders so that all have an opportunity to be involved.

Tree planting at the Mt Taupiri location has been registered at

Trees That Count also keep count on the number of native trees that are planted in New Zealand. This is reliant on people to register their tree counts. Do you plant trees and are interested in contributing to the count? Join the hundreds of others already doing so and find out more at

Trees That Count is an initiative of the Project Crimson Trust. Since the programme’s launch in 2016 more than 14,000 native trees have been gifted and then distributed to planting projects throughout New Zealand.

As we count down to the festive season – will you put a tree under the Christmas tree and gift ‘trees that count’?
