Book giveaway: Wild About New Zealand

Elizabeth Marenzi —  08/10/2013

Thanks for all your comments telling us why you want this fantastic book. The giveaway is now closed and the winners (picked at random) are: Gloria Williams and Darryn Anderson.

New Zealand is blessed with some of the most remarkable natural landscapes on Earth. The most unique and iconic of these areas are set aside as national parks.

For the last few weeks I’ve loved having these special places in my living room, courtesy of the Natural History New Zealand produced television series Wild About New Zealand — made to celebrate the 125th anniversary of New Zealand’s first national park.

Tonight’s the last episode (8:30 pm, TV One) but you can continue your living room adventures with Gus in the book, Wild About New Zealand: A Guide to Our National Parks.

Cover of Wild About New Zealand.

Written by outdoor adventurer Gus Roxburgh and illustrated with magnificent photographs and bird’s-eye view maps, this is both an entertaining and comprehensive visitor’s guide as well as a stunning celebration of New Zealand’s amazingly diverse national parks.

And, here’s the bit you’ve been waiting for:

Thanks to Random House New Zealand, we’ve got copies to give away!

To be in to win leave a comment on this post before 12 noon on Thursday 10 October 2013, telling us why you want the book. Winners will be selected at random and contacted by email.

I love our Parks and are a outdoor instructor who loves to share our great country with others……have enjoyed the series and would love a copy of the book. Books like this increase the knowledge I have to share with groups I instruct in the outdoors, if I can make a few of them passionate about looking after this beautiful country of ours it would be fantastic! Thanks for support this series!!!

I’d love this book to give to my husband who is recovering from an operation. We used to live on Great Barrier Island as well as having been lucky enough to spend a lot of time exploring other National Parks – the book is total nostalgia for us and brings it all back close again.

  4.

I’d like to win a copy of this book because I am a proud Wildsider!!! And because I think this series paid a lot of tribute to the work that DOC does and gives DOC credit where credit is due. Thanks!

The TV series did a magnificent job of taking us to places most people don’t get to go. We live in a truly remarkable country and Wild About NZ showcased our stunning national parks and the people that work closely with the environment to preserve and protect that which is so unique and important.

I have just watched the final episode of Wild About New Zealand with my son, daughter-in -law and two granddaughters who have just arrived from Wales to live in New Zealand. They are absolutely gob smacked by the beauty of NZ and would love to have a copy of this book to help plan their sight seeing and adventures in their new life in this country. It would also be an invaluable reference book for my teenage daughters as they embark on their schooling in our beautiful country.

Lucy The series on TV has been a great way for my teenagers to revisit some of the New Zealand Great Walks we’ve undertaken as a family. The book would give us the opportunity to check out some of the wild New Zealand’s places we haven’t included in our adventures yet.

I’d love the book so I could give it to my Mum. She lives on a remote island 10,000km away, off the coast of Madagascar, and will come to New Zealand for the first time in her life this Christmas. This would be such a lovely gift to introduce her to all our natural wonders as well as for her to remember the trip by!

I really enjoyed watching each episodes which was a great reminder of how lucky we are to live in such an amazing country and that we all have the responsability to protect these wonderful national parks that make NZ such a special place. I have been recording every episod and this TV show is a great advocacy tool and provide very significant conservation message.
I would really love to get a copy of this book as I could share it with my family and go and discover these wonderful national park and take part in protecting NZ natural biodiversity and environment.
Thanks again for such a great TV serie that is a real celebration of our most amazing country

As a writer and nature photographer, the series really inspired me to want to do something worthy with both and start giving back to this beautiful country we live in.

The highlight of the series was seeing all of the bird life. I particularly loved the Okarito Wetlands. I have much admiration for the people who work to preserve the environment, especially for our wildlife.

Words and images are a great way to provide awareness. I hope to see more series and books like this.

We recently moved from the US to the Coromandel Peninsula. We are enjoying the outdoors, but having a book we could tick off new parks when I get some time off from work.

I loved the TV shows. The amazing scenery and how it was captured was fantastic. The shows also contained many valuable conservation messages and I learnt many things about NZ and their national parks while watching.

I know the book contains all the national parks NZ has so it would be great to see the images and stories from both the ones we have seen on TV and the parks not shown.

It would make a valuable contribution in planning our next years trip to the South Island and in planning for any future trips around NZ.

  24.

As a tour guide I often get to take guest s into our wonderful landscapes. Would be lovely to have such a book on our coffee table to show to guests.

Just an amazing country we live in.
